1.     Run after: Chase [The police are running after the thief.]

2.     Take after: Resemble [You take after your mother.]

3.     Make out: Understand [Did you make out what I said?]

4.     Come round: Recover [Come round soon. You are back to health.]

5.     Call up: Remember [Can you call up my name?]

6.     Put out: Extinguish [Put out the candle.]

7.     Blow out: Extinguish [Blow out the flame.]

8.     Keep up: Continue [Keep up the good work.]

9.        Carry on: Continue [Carry on such progress.]

10.                       Run away: Escape [None can run away from destiny.]

11.                        Bear with: Tolerate [I won’t bear with such injustice.]

12.                        Put up with: Tolerate [Why did you put up with such disgrace?]

13.                        Look for: Search [What are you looking for?]

14.                        Look after: Take care of [Look after your parents.]

15.                        Deal in: Sell [Johnny deals in rice.]

16.                        Give up: Abandon [Never give up hope.]

17.                        Give in: Surrender [I will never give in to my foes.]

18.                        Go through: Read [Go through the book.]

19.                        Pass away: Die [When did your granny pass away?]

20.                        Kick off: Begin [I’ll kick it off with a mighty ‘Yes’.]

21.                        Turn up: Appear [When did he turn up?]

22.                        Give away: Distribute [The Principal gave away the prizes.]

23.                        Work out: Solve [Work out the sum.]

24.                        Figure out: Solve [Figure out life’s problems wisely.]

25.                        Laugh at: Ridicule [Stop laughing at the poor.]

26.                        Look down upon: Hate [He used to look down upon the lame one day.]

27.                        Put up: Erect [Put up the stick at the proper place.]

28.                        Shut up: Stop talking [Shut up! I’m working.]
